Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder on Tuesday said the Election Commission (EC) will scrutinise each appeal, filed by the candidates whose nomination papers have been cancelled, according to its merit.
“The EC will not be biased towards anyone while hearing the appeals filed over accepting or rejecting nomination papers. We will hear the appeals according to the law and each appeal will be scrutinised as per its merit,” he said.
The election commissioner said these while talking to newsmen after visiting EC’s booths for carrying out appeal filing activities at its Agargaon office in the capital, reports BSS.
Returning Officers (ROs) on December 2 rejected nomination papers of 786 candidates over different allegations. The EC is now receiving appeals against those decisions of the ROs. It will continue receiving appeals until tomorrow. The EC will hear and dispose of the appeals on December 6, 7 and 8.
“Those, who have filed the appeals, present their documents in support of their pleas in the hearing. I don’t have any personal opinion about this. We all want justice,” Talukder added.
