ACC files leave to appeal against Khaleda’s bail

The anti-graft body has filed a leave to appeal petition with the apex court, challenging BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s bail in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan filed the petition with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Thursday.

Citing from the ACC petition, he said it sought continuation of the stay order on a High Court bail order until the leave to appeal is disposed of.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Supreme Court stayed until Sunday a High Court order that has granted a four-month interim bail to Khaleda in the graft case, reports UNB.

The court also asked the petitioner to file a regular leave to appeal petition by Sunday.

BNP chairperson Khaleda has been behind bars since February 8, when she got five years of imprisonment in the graft case.
