Aedes larvae: DNCC fines houses Tk 1.15m

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) in the last five days of its combing operation found that a total of 40,349 houses and establishments had favourable environments for the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes.

It also found Aedes larvae in 467 houses and establishments and fined Tk 1.15 million after inspecting 66,305 structures during the drive.

DNCC has been conducting its second phase of the 10-day combing operation since Saturday.

Besides, DNCC found Aedes larvae in 100 houses and establishments and fined Tk 351,700 on Wednesday on the fifth day of its combing operation.

During the operation, mobile courts levied fines on the owners of different houses and establishments in cases where Aedes larvae were found.

A total of 13,199 houses, establishments and under-construction buildings in 54 wards were inspected and Aedes larvae were found in 100 of them.

In addition, a total of 7,880 structures had a conducive environment for the breeding of Aedes mosquito.

Those areas were cleaned by DNCC cleaners. Workers also used mosquito repellents.

Owners of other homes were also warned.

Aedes larvae were found in the abandoned tyre, bucket, flower tub, bottle, water meter, garage, water house, earthenware pot, broken mug, house floor, water tank, plastic container and roof drain.

The larvae were also spotted in yoghurt pot, abandoned commode, coconut shell, pot, basement and space between two houses.

Earlier in the first phase, DNCC launched a '10-day combing operation' from June 06 to June 15 to prevent the breeding of Aedes mosquito responsible for dengue fever.

The drive runs from 10:00am to 1:00pm every day.

Pesticides were sprayed on breeding grounds and the city-dwellers asked to be vigilant to Aedes.

 Under the ongoing campaign, every ward has been divided into 10 sectors and each sector into 10 sub-sectors to help facilitate the campaign.
