Awami League MP Mizanur Rahman is facing questions from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over alleged illegal accumulation of wealth.
ACC Deputy Director Manjur Morshed began grilling the Khulna – 2 MP at 10:00am on Monday.
Earlier, the MP was served with a notice on Apr 4 asking him to appear before the ACC on Apr 16 for interrogation over allegation of amassing illegal wealth, bdnews24 reported quoting ACC spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya.
Rahman, also the General Secretary of Awami League Khulna city unit, has allegedly embezzled millions by misusing his power at the Khulna City Corporation and other public offices to secure work orders in the name of his family members and running trade in contraband drugs.
On Mar 8, the ACC decided to launch an investigation against three MPs over allegations of acquiring illegal wealth.
The other two are former BNP MPs Ruhul Kuddus Dulu and Asadul Habib Dulu.
Ruhul Kuddus allegedly earned huge wealth from different government projects of Natore during the tenure of the BNP government, according to the ACC.
Habib Dulu allegedly acquired huge sums of money illegally during the tenure of the BNP government from Lalmonirhat and Rangpur region by providing work orders to traders of his choice.
The ACC also launched an investigation against independent lawmaker Kamrul Ashraf Khan (Narsingdi-2) for the allegation of embezzling money through illegal means.
