62pc of haor paddy harvested

Farmers in the haor areas of Bangladesh have harvested 62 per cent of paddy as of April 27, said the Ministry of Agriculture.

Among the rest 38 per cent, 14 per cent of paddy has ripen and ready for harvesting, while 24 per cent is not fully ripen yet, said a handout on Tuesday, reports UNB. 

It said Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque will visit Dakhshin Sunamganj, Sadar and Tahirpur upazila in Sunamganj district on Wednesday to see the paddy harvesting and encourage the farmers. 

According to statistics provided by the Department of Agricultural Extension, Boro paddy was cultivated on 4,45,399 hectares of land in seven haor districts –Kishoreganj, Netrakona, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Sylhet and Brahmanbaria. 

Of the districts, paddy has been harvested from 0.27 million hectares of land as of April 27, the handout added.
