Louhajang upazila fisheries officials and police in a joint drive arrested eight people with 5,300 kilograms of ‘Jatka’ (Hilsa fry less than 9 inches long) from different points of Padma River in Munshiganj early Wednesday.
Louhajang Upazila Assistant Fisheries Officer Md Idris Talukdar said they seized two trawlers and a truck with the fish.
They also arrested eight people for transporting the jatka.
Louhajang Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate fined them Tk 40,000 through a mobile court.
Later, the jatka was distributed among the orphans, poor and destitute, the official added, reports UNB.
