State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mahbub Ali on Monday said 34.6 per cent of construction work of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport's (HSIA's) third terminal has so far been completed which is nearly two percent more than the progress target.
"The progress of the ongoing construction work (of 3rd terminal) is more than expectation," he told reporters after visiting the construction site at the airport on Monday.
The state minister said that it would be possible to open the third terminal for the air traveller by September or October next year, reports BSS.
The terminal with all modern amenities will be connected through under constructed elevated expressway through tunnels.
As per the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Ali said, the terminal's tunnel will be extended up to Hajj camp in Ashkona.
The state minister said this year 30 to 50 thousand Bangladeshi pilgrims could go to Saudi Arabia for performing holly Hajj while his ministry is working to keep the airfare in tolerable level.
Civil Aviation Authority Chairman (CAAB) Air Vice Marshal M Mofidur Rahman said the work of high-speed taxiway at the HSIA will be completed by May next one month before the stipulated time.
