223 drug offenders convicted in Jan-Jun 2019

Some 37 per cent drug offenders were convicted in January-June period of 2019, according to a report of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC).

Of the 605 accused, 382 were acquitted while 223 were convicted in those drug-related cases, the DNC report showed.

Apart from this, the number of undertrial cases related to the drug-related offences stood at 56,173, the department added.

Some 41 per cent of the accused were convicted in 2018 while it was 40 per cent in 2017, the DNC data disclosed.
