Bangladesh has, so far, received 19.9 million vaccines doses from China including the latest consignment of 5.4 million doses, which arrived in the early hour of Saturday.
Dr Shamsul Huq, a member of the national Vaccine Deployment Committee, received the vaccine at the airport.
Bangladesh till Saturday, administered 33.7 million doses of the vaccine including 20.4 million as first doses and 13.3 million as the second dose.
Among these, Sinopaharm tops the list as 16.8 million doses of the China-made vaccine were administered so far of which 11 million were as the first dose and 5.8 million were as the second dose.
Bangladesh signed a deal with China for procuring 90 million doses in two phases. The first deal was inked for procuring 30 million and later the government placed a proposal for buying another 60 million.
In May and June of this year, China provided 1.1 million Sinopharm vaccines in two consignments as gifts.
Besides, in August, the government signed an MoU with China’s Sinopharm and Bangladesh’s Incepta Vaccines Ltd. under which the local vaccine manufacturer would produce 5.0 million export-quality Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine doses per month.
