100 physicians, 34 newsmen die in pandemic in Bangladesh

At least 100 physicians in the country have died so far from the novel coronavirus and the total of number of infections among the health workers have increased to 8,084, according to a report of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA).

Among the deceased, two were dental surgeons, said the apex body of doctors, BMA.

BMA expressed deep condolences to the victims’ families saying that the contribution of the physicians in such a condition must not be forgotten.

Of the total infections, some 2852 doctors, 1966 nurses and 3266 other health staffers got infected since the first virus case was reported in the country on March 8.

Meanwhile, at least 23 journalists died from Covid-19 while 11 more died with coronavirus-like symptoms across the country so far.

Newsmen are facing the brunt of the virus infection in the pandemic because of their role of covering events from the frontline.

Besides, a total 956 newsmen of national and regional newspapers, TV, online media and other platforms got infected with the virus till Sunday, said a local journalists’ platform titled ‘Our Media, Our Rights’.

Of the total infected, some 935 newsmen made recovery and joined their services so far, it added.
