Soroptimist International (SI) Club of Dhaka has organised a breast cancer awareness seminar at the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) in the capital.
As October is the month of creating awareness on Breast Cancer, the SI-Club, in association with the School of Public Health at IUB and Apollo Hospitals, Dhaka, jointly sponsored the event.
Dr. S M G Kibria, Senior Consultant, Apollo Hospitals, Dhaka was the Keynote Speaker of the Seminar, held on the IUB campus, says a statement.
The breast cancer awareness campaign helps worldwide talking people necessary steps towards early detection and essential treatments as well as palliative care of the disease.
Prof. M. Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB and Prof. Dilara Chowdhury, President, Soroptimist International (SI) Club of Dhaka, also spoke on the occasion.
Prof. M. Omar Rahman, in his speech, recommended regular self-examination of abnormality in breasts and getting early treatment of needed.
Prof. Dilara Chowdhury discussed about wide-ranging activities of SI club and the contributions that the club has made so far to the humanity and the society.
The programme was hosted by Dr. Shamim Matin Chowdhury, former President and honourable Member of Soroptimist International Club, Dhaka.
Through his presentation, Dr. S M G Kibria illustrated all aspects of breast cancer that include the stages, causes, prevention and treatments.
He also urged upon the audience not to panic in any situation and go for visiting the doctors since breast cancer is certainly curable if detected at the early stage.
Following the presentation, floor was open for question-answer session where teachers, students and guests were participated enthusiastically.
The programme concluded with sharing of experience by two breast cancer survivors.
