Noted neurosurgeon Professor Kanak Kanti Barua has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor (VC) of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
President M Abdul Hamid cleared his appointment on Monday, a BSMMU press release said.
Prof Barua will replace Prof Kamrul Hasan Khan and discharge his duties for the next three years after taking office on March 24, added the release.
Prof Barua completed his MBBS from Dhaka Medical College in 1977. He passed his MS in Neurosurgery and PhD in 2003 and 2004 respectively.
He is the president of Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons and first vice-president of Bangladesh Medical Association and Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad, reports BSS.
