Renowned paediatrician Prof Dr Shahana Akther Rahman has been made the first-ever woman pro-vice chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
Dr Shahana, chairman of Paediatrics Department of BSMMU, has been appointed as pro-vice chancellor (education) for three years by chancellor of the varsity and President Md Abdul Hamid, an official release said on Wednesday.
Prof Shahana, wife of former Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Atiur Rahman, attained her MBBS degree from Dhaka Medical College in 1982. A proud mother of three daughters, Prof Shahana is active in medical studies, service and research from 1991.
More than hundred research papers of her were published in different local and foreign journals. She supervised more than 30 MD and FCPS research works as thesis guide.
Prof Shahana is the architect behind "OSCE and Structured Course Curriculum" which have been newly added to Bangladesh medical studies programme. Prof Shahana launched international-standard graduate nursing department at BSMMU. A pioneer in child rheumatology in the country, Prof Shahana has taken different clinical fellowship trainings in the United Kingdom, Singapore and India, reports BSS.
