The third edition of ‘Nutrition Olympiad’ will be held in Dhaka city on Saturday aiming to promote healthy diet and nutrition in the country.
The day-long programme at the Bangabandhu International Convention Centre (BICC) coincides with the National Nutrition Week, with its focus particularly set on the youths.
The organisers came up with the announcement at a press conference at the National Press Club on Thursday. Bangladesh Institute of ICT in Development (BIID) CEO Md Shahid Uddin Akbar disclosed the details of the event.
Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzak will join the programme as the chief guest while Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder as the special guest.
Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of UN's Bangladesh representative Robert D Simpson will also be present as the guest of honour.
The Nutrition Olympiad 2019 will be financially supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and European Union (EU).
Driven by the vision to engage youth and adolescents to spearhead the United Nation’s Zero Hunger Challenge initiative, the Nutrition Olympiad 2019 will be organised under 'Meeting the Undernutrition Challenge' (MUCH), implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in collaboration with the Food Planning and Monitoring Unit (FPMU), Ministry of Food, and the BIID Foundation.
The Nutrition Olympiad is an annual national event where the youths have an opportunity to share their experiences to promote healthy diets and nutrition through innovative activities, express their concerns and challenges related to nutrition, and seek actionable solutions as well as build networks, organisers noted.
