Health minister says Bangladesh becomes successful in dealing with Covid-19

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Malek on Monday said Bangladesh has become successful in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“The health department has advanced a long way under her leadership and Bangladesh has also attained dynamism for the successful dealing with coronavirus,” he said while inaugurating the new building at Chattogram Divisional Health Director’s office, reports BSS.

Mentioning that the primary health care journey starts with field-level community clinics, the health minister said the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation awarded Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina the title of Vaccine Hero for the successful completion of the vaccine programme.

Zahid Malek said that about 98 per cent of people above the age of 12 years in the country have taken the Covid-19 vaccine.

“People of the world know that coronavirus is now under control in Bangladesh. So, different countries are interested in taking workers from Bangladesh,” he said.

Zahid Malek said, “We have started the process of setting up new hospitals in every division across the country”.

“The work of one has also started in the Chattogram division where cancer patients, kidney and heart disease patients will be treated. A unit of burn institute is being set up in Chattogram. But our challenge is to ensure optimal use of them,” the minister said.

The health minister said around 12,000 doctors and 20,000 nurses were appointed in the last three years to ensure health care for all.

Earlier, the minister inaugurated the mural of Bangabandhu before unveiling the plaque of the newly constructed building and later visited the Bangabandhu Corner there.
