The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) gets a short code of 10655 to disseminate coronavirus-related information for people.
The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regul-atory Commission (BTRC) allotted the code on Thursday in response to an IEDCR application for such a code last week.
BTRC senior assistant director Zakir Hossain Khan said they allotted the code without any fee.
However, a call to the short code will charge a mobile subscriber Tk 0.45 per minute.
Anyone can call to this number from any operator for information about coronavirus and the IEDCR will disseminate relevant information on any update.
Three new COVID-19 cases-one woman and two men-were confirmed in Bangladesh on Thursday, taking the number of total confirmed cases to 17.
Of the seventeen patients, three were earlier released upon recovery while one died on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, 43 others have also been quarantined over suspected corona symptoms.
