Noted Nazrul Sangeet exponent Shamshy Faruque Shimky will make a comeback in the dais after almost a couple of decades.

The popular Nazrul Sangeet artiste is going to perform in a solo musical evening today (Tuesday) at Dipanpur Book cafe in Dhaka. Through this event, the singer is returning to the realm of Nazrul Sangeet in the country.

Shimky was in a hiatus of nearly two decades. One of the top graded Nazrul singers in '80s and early '90s, she regularly performed in Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Radio programmes in those days. Shimky also regularly made her active presence in different cultural events of Nazrul Institute, Bangla Academy, and Shilpakala Academy in the capital, and sometimes outside it.

Later, she left the country to start a new life in the United Kingdom. The singer, now resides in Manchester with her family, is serving as a Human Resource Consultant at the National Health Service of the UK.

Shimky started taking lessons at the Nazrul Academy back in 1975. She completed a five-year training course there, both on Nazrul Sangeet and classical music.

After completing the five-year course, she took additional lessons from two maestros – Shudhin Das and Akhter Sadmani.
