The first show of 'Srabon Tragedy', based on the tragic assassination of Bangabandhu, will be held in the city in August, the month of national mourning.

The opening show of the drama will be held on August 3 (Friday) while the second performance of the play is scheduled to be staged on August 4 (Saturday) at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA).

Meanwhile, a special exhibition for the invited guests will be held at 4:30 pm in the Experimental Theatre Hall, BSA on Sunday before the opening exhibition while two technical shows will be held on August 3 and 4 in the same venue.

The drama was patronised by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and different government and non-government organisations to pay tribute to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Assistant professor of Department of Theatre and Performance Studies of Dhaka University is in direction of the play while associate professor of Jahangirnagar University's Drama and Dramatics Department Anan Zaman wrote it.

Mahakal will bring its 40th theatre production on stage in the month of mourning as a mournful narration of the tragic death of the Father of the Nation and the history to the new generation.

Mahakal troupe members said it took almost 10 months to review the manuscript through study while the troupe has continued their rehearsal for one and half months.

'Srabon Tragedy', a research-based performance, is the depiction of the tragic assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members while the play will focus on Bangabandhu's participation in different movements, reports UNB.

The theatre troupe arranged a special show (script reading performance) of 'Srabon Tragedy' on August 16, 2017, as a part of the primary analysis to pay homage to the father of the nation.
