Universities to resume academic activities in full swing after vaccination

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has said the universities will reopen dormitories and resume academic activities in full swing after completing vaccination against coronavirus.

“In the soonest possible time, university students will be vaccinated on a priority basis as per the instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” said a press release issued on Tuesday.

“The vaccination will begin with the residential students of the dormitories of the country’s public universities,” said the release.

The decisions were taken at a view-exchange meeting on Monday among the universities, UGC and the Ministry of Education, chaired by Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, reports BSS.

The UGC also asked the universities to prepare a ‘recovery plan’, based on its capacity and reality, and take initiatives to recover the academic losses of students caused by the long closure amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Currently, the country’s public and private universities are also allowed to take in-person examinations of honours and masters classes alongside online.

Following the approval of the academic council, each university has to take the examinations as per the previous guidelines issued by the UGC.
