Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid has said the harmful aspects of tobacco would be included in the textbook to raise awareness among students and parents.
The minister said, “There is discussion in the textbook about the harmful effects of drugs but not about tobacco. The menacing effects of tobacco would be clearly mentioned in the textbook of 2020.”
He came up with the statement while speaking as the chief guest at a programme titled 'Tobacco Control Journalism Award' in the capital on Sunday.
The programme was organised to mark the ‘World No Tobacco Day 2018’ on May 31.
At the function, Nahid also laid emphasis on creating social awareness about tobacco’s menacing effects.
Presided over by renowned journalist Mozammel Hossain, the programme was also addressed by National Professor Abdul Malik, a retired brigadier and founder of National Heart Foundation Hospital.
