Voice of Business (VoB), the first ever and the largest student-run publication in Bangladesh, is run by the students of nine departments of Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka. Since its inception in 2007, it has been relentlessly working for the students around the country. It continuously tries to keep students updated with the corporate world. The organisation arranged a seminar titled ‘Transformation to Success: Students to professionals’ at the Conference Hall of Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka on November 12, 2017 with around 250 participants.
The seminar focused on HR insights to let the students know how they should prepare themselves for future challenges and what basically organisations look for when they hire employees. HR department of an orgnisation performs human resource management, hire employees and oversee various aspects of employment standards. Before entering into the job market, students need to know the challenges and ways to prepare themselves.
The Chief Patron of VOB and Dean of Faculty of Business Studies at University of Dhaka Professor Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam was present as the chief guest along with Rumana Rahman, head of HR, British American Tobacco Bangladesh (BATB) and Md Moinul Islam, director of HR at ACI Limited as the resource persons of the seminar.
The seminar commenced at 2 pm on that day with the welcome speech of Professor Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam. He said, ‘The competition in the job market is very high at present. But the opportunities are high too. So, students need to recognise these existing opportunities and make the best out of it.’
One of the two resource persons of the seminar, Rumana Rahman, said, 'No matter what background you are from, you always have the freedom to choose your own destiny.' She shared some of her own life experiences and cleared some common misconception of students regarding job market. Following her speech there was a question answer session where she answered to the questions asked by the students about the Human Resource Department of BATB and other ongoing issues a candidate should know about job market of Bangladesh.
Md Moinul Islam said, 'Dedication always requires sacrifice. One has to make the syllabus of oneself and one’s success.' He explained the basic things about job market, described activities of ACI HR Department and answered some questions asked by the participants.
Sohebur Rahman Shanto, a first-year student from Department of Accounting and Information System, said, ‘Transformation to Success was an amazing seminar where we learned a lot from some great corporate personalities’. Jannat-E-Jahan, a third-year student from Department of Marketing, said, ‘We have got the chance to know the HR insights directly from the experts and got the opportunity to ask them questions.’
With time VoB has emerged as the spokesperson of the Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka over the past decade with a view to bridge the gap between the budding business minds and the corporate world. It has always been ready to resonate itself by seminars and events on different areas of the business world and therefore, help the students to transform them from students to professionals so that they can embrace the competitive world with prior skills and experiences. This event was also part of their effort to shape the young minds in the right direction.
