Seven DU students get Tajuddin Ahmad Award

Seven students of the Dhaka University (DU) have got Tajuddin Ahmed Award for their outstanding results in Bachelor of Social Science (BSS) examinations in 2015.

Tajuddin Ahmad Memorial Trust Fund awarded them at a function at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the campus on Saturday.

Of them, Adiba Sultana Mim, a student of the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies and Mahabuba Islam Meem, a 2nd year student of the same department were awarded with Tajuddin Ahmad Peace Gold Medal and Tajudddin Ahmad Scholarship respectively, a DU press release said today.

Besides, Arpita Hoque (English), Niranjan Bishwas Saikat (Law), Md Shafiqul Islam (Anthropology), Ataur Rahman Maruf (Institute of Social Welfare and Research) and Md. Faridul Islam (Printing and Publication Studies) received Tajuddin Ahmad Trust Fund prizes.

DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman conferred the award giving ceremony as the chief guest.

DU Treasurer Professor Kamal Uddin presided over the function organised by DU Tajuddin Ahmad Memorial Trust Fund while Member of the Trustee Board Simin Hossain Rimi, MP, addressed it as the special guest.

DU English Department Professor Dr Syed Manzoorul Islam delivered memorial lecture while Donor of the Trust Fund Sharmin Ahmad delivered welcome speech through an audio message.

DU VC Akhtaruzzaman paid glowing tributes to the memory of the first Prime

Minister of the country Tajuddin Ahmad, saying he was an honest and patriotic politician.

“He was a close confidant of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman”, the VC added.

He urged the politicians as well as the young generation to become honest and patriotic citizen by following the ideals of Tajuddin Ahmad, he continued.
