RU to build two new modern ten-storied dormitories

Rajshahi University (RU) is going to construct two new modern ten-storied dormitories for the students. The move aims at removing the existing accommodation crises.

According to the RU sources, one of the dormitories will be the named after Prime Minister ‘Sheikh Hasina Hall’ for female students while other ‘AHM Kamaruzzaman Hall’ for male students.

Chancellor of RU and President of Peoples Republic of Bangladesh M Abdul Hamid is likely to unveil the foundation stones of the hall marking RU’s 10th convocation on Saturday.

A total of 6,009 graduates who earned their masters, MBBS, BDS, MPhil and PhD degrees between 2011 and 2014 from RU have registered their names to take part in the convocation, said a BSS report.

Pro-Vice-chancellor of RU Prof Ananda Kumar Shaha told journalists that there are 17 dormitories including six for female students with accommodation capacity of 8,354 students including 3,119 females in the university. Number of attached students to the halls is 25,946.

Shaha expected that the existing accommodation crisis would be reduced to some extent upon successful completion of construction works of the two halls.
