Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has recently celebrated its 20th convocation at the university campus in Bashundhara area in the capital.
Md Abdul Hamid, President, People’s Republic of Bangladesh and the Chancellor of IUB graced the occasion with his presence.
During this auspicious occasion, President congratulated the new graduates, and asked the students to give priority to the interests of the country and its people by giving due importance on moral education and help making country’s ongoing development activities sustainable.
“Serve the people, you will prosper inevitably”, he said while speaking in the function held on Thursday and expressed his deep satisfaction about IUB’s academic curriculum and research strength.
Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed, Founder Chairman, BishwaSahitya Kendra, delivered the convocation speech while Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury, MP, Hon’ble Deputy Minister, Ministry of Education spoke on the occasion as the special guest, according to a press statement.
“Leading private universities like IUB are truly making the difference in producing responsible citizens for the nation,” Mr Chowdhury said and gave assurance of extending all-out support to IUB in its future endeavors.
Prof Abdul Mannan, Chairman of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, who was also present on the occasion, stated that the UGC is working relentlessly for the improvement the quality of higher education in Bangladesh.
Prof M Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB delivered the welcome speech in the 20th convocation ceremony.
A total of 1,166 students received degrees from six different schools under 29 programmes and disciplines. Of them, 825 were in undergraduate programmes, while 341 students got degrees in Masters programmes.
Samara Tawziat Choudhury, the student of Biochemistry of School of Life Sciences became this year’s Valedictorian and Chancellor’s Gold Medalist while 4 students from undergraduate programmes received Medals and Crests for making outstanding contributions in extracurricular activities.
