North South University waives tuition fees of Tk 1.33b during pandemic

North South University (NSU) waived tuition fees worth Tk 1.33 billion for the last five semesters during the Covid-19 pandemic to help its students continue their study.

Besides, it waived tuition fees totally for 54 students who had lost their parents during the pandemic, said NSU Vice-Chancellor Prof Atiqul Islam on Thursday.

"To assist its students, NSU has awarded them special scholarship worth Tk 1.33 billion for the last five semesters during the pandemic," he said at a view-exchange meeting organised on the university campus at Bashundhara in the city to celebrate its top position among all private universities of Bangladesh.

NSU has been ranked 215th in the latest 'QS World University Rankings-Asia 2022' which was officially unveiled on November 2. It has held its undisputed spot as number 1 private university in Bangladesh.

Mr Islam said NSU is the only private university in Bangladesh that has made such a significant improvement.

In addition, he said, North South University had been ranked in the latest 'QS Graduate Employability Ranking 2022' officially unveiled on September 23, 2021.

"NSU continues to solidify its position as the leader in higher education in Bangladesh. It continues to make significant strides towards its goal of being on top 1000 university in the world."

NSU has helped 1,399 students who are the sons and daughters of freedom fighters to continue their studies at the university giving them scholarship worth Tk 1.20 billion, he added.
