A two-day long National Mathematics Conference has begun at A F Mujibur Rahman Bhaban of Dhaka University (DU) in the capital.
A F Mujibur Rahman Foundation and Bangladesh Mathematical Society have jointly organised the conference with a theme of “Research and Development in Mathematics for Real Life Application”.
Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman on Friday inaugurated the conference as the chief guest, says a media statement.
President of Bangladesh Mathematical Society Prof. Dr. Md. Mubarak Hossain presided over the inaugural function.
Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Mohammed Abdul Aziz and Trustee of A F Mujibur Rahman Foundation Khushi Kabir addressed it as the special guests.
Vice-President of Bangladesh Mathematical Society Prof. Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam delivered welcome address at the event.
Member Secretary of Conference Organizing Committee Prof. Dr. Mohammad Babul Hasan gave vote of thanks while Associate Professor of the Department of Mathematics Dr. Chandra Nath Podder conducted the function.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman urged the professionals, academicians and researchers to present mathematics to the students in easy ways so that they can understand it properly.
Mathematical knowledge is one of the foundational skills to analyse and apply the concepts and theories of other academic fields including economics, business, science and engineering, he added.
He hoped that this conference would create a common platform for mathematicians in the country.
About 200 academicians and researchers are participating in the conference, said the release.
