The Jahangirnagar University (JU) Day was observed on the campus on Friday amid a festive mood marking the 47th founding anniversary of the university.
The university wore a festive look on the occasion as over 500 former and current students of different departments, teachers, employees and officers joined the daylong programme with banners, balloons and festoons of different colours.
JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam inaugurated the programme by hoisting the national flag and JU flag and releasing balloons in front of the Business Studies faculty at 10:30 am.
Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University VC Prof Mohammad Alauddin, JU Pro-VC (academic) Prof Abul Hossain, Pro-VC (administration) Prof Amir Hussain, Treasurer Prof Sheikh Monjurul Huq and former JU VC Prof Shariff Enamul Kabir were present at the inaugural session.
The daylong programme included a puppet show, cake fair, staging drama and cultural function organised by Student Welfare and Counselling Centre of the university at the Selim al Deen Muktamancha.
The JU was founded on August 20, 1970 and formally began the academic activities as a residential university on January 12, 1971 with four departments, 21 teachers, 150 students and three residential halls, a news agency reported.
