Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised a 3-day long International English Debate Tournament titled `IUB Ascension 2018’ from September 20- 22, 2018 at university’s own campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka.
The university organised this tournament to encourage the young students to be more pragmatic, insightful and exposed to the real-world which will eventually enable them taking leaderships to be future leaders.
The grand finale and award giving ceremony of the tournament took place at IUB on September 22, 2018 evening.
A total of 116 teams from different schools, colleges and universities from the country and abroad participated in this international debate tournament. Apart from all topmost schools, colleges and universities of the country, participants also came from India, Malaysia, Taiwan and Nepal. The adjudicators to conduct the tournament came from UK, Indonesia, Singapore and Philippine.
In the open category, Delhi University, India clinched the championship trophy while Taylor’s University, Malaysia became the runner-up. In high school category, Debate Network Nepal became the Champion and Rajuk Uttara Model College, Dhaka became the runner-up. In novice category, Khulna University bagged the Champion award while Kathmandu University School of Law, Nepal grabbed the runner-up position. Mr. Rashed Chowdhury, former Chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB, and Vice Chancellor Prof. M. Omar Rahman distributed trophies and other prizes among the champion and runner-up teams as well as among other individual winners. Prof. Milan Pagon, Pro-Vice Chancellor, IUB and Brig. Gen. (Retd) Md. Anwarul Islam, Registrar of IUB also distributed awards. Mr.Towhid Bin Muzaffar, Head, Department of English, IUB, delivered formal vote of thanks.
