IUB hosts seminar on Preventing Terrorism and Extremism

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has recently hosted a Seminar titled ‘Preventing Terrorism and Extremism through Community Engagement’ at the university’s own campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka.  

Anti Terrorism Unit (ATU) of Bangladesh Police, School of Environmental Science and Management (SESM) at IUB and Community Development for Peace jointly organised the seminar on Monday last.

The objective of the seminar was to create awareness against terrorism and extremism and thereby involve community and society for making a social movement to stop all these, according to a media release.

Md Moniruzzaman, Additional Deputy Inspector General, ATU presented the Key Note in the seminar.

A Matin Chowdhury, Chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB; Prof Milan Pagon, Vice Chancellor (Acting), IUB; Penny Morton, High Commissioner (Acting) of Australia in Bangladesh; Kanbar Hossein – Bor, British Deputy High Commissioner to Bangladesh; Md Didar Ahamed, Deputy Inspector General, ATU and; Md Haider Ali Khan, Additional Deputy Inspector General were also present and spoke on the occasion.

The floor was open for question-answer session after the presentation, where students raised various concerned issues.

During the next phase of the event, a mini workshop was held where faculties and students were separated in ten different groups and they made their presentations.

Deans, senior members of the faculty and administration and full house of students attended the day-long seminar.
