The School of Life Sciences (SLS) and International Center for Biotechnology and Health (ICBH) at the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) jointly organised a seminar entitled, “Achieving Hunger-Free Bangladesh,” recently at IUB campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka.
Professor Zahurul Karim, PhD, Fellow BAS, Fellow the World Academy of Sciences was the resource person in the event, said a statement.
Professor Karim elaborated on the challenges that Bangladesh has been facing with regard to food security ever since its inception. He provided deepest insights and experienced perspective on the progress that Bangladesh have made until now, and solutions that still need to come up with.
Professor Karim has served in many key positions in the Government of Bangladesh including Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh, Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC), Director General of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) and Member Secretary National Agricultural Commission; and also served more than five years as Senior Advisor in the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.
Following the presentation, both students and faculties participated in the open discussion. The programme ended with vote of thanks offered by Dr. Mahboob Morshed, Assistant Professor in the School of Life Sciences at IUB.
Senior members of the faculty and administration and a large number of students attended.
