A four-day international rating chess tournament has been kicked off at the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) campus in the city’s Bashundhara area.
As part of celebrating its 25th anniversary, the IUB organised the tournament which will be ended on Sunday.
More than 50 international rated and almost same numbers of non-rated chess players from different institutes and chess federation have participated in the tournament.
The event started on Thursday with an opening remarks delivered by the first south Asian international grandmaster Niaz Murshed. He explained the objectives and future plans of the competition.
Professor M. Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB, formally inaugurated the contest as the chief guest.
The IUB Vice Chancellor urged all the students to be involved with extracurricular activities more and more to flourish their talent and become quality human beings, says a media release.
Participants, members of the faculty and management of the IUB and full-house students attended the inaugural ceremony of the tournament.
