International Blockchain Olympiad starts tomorrow in Bangladesh

The International Blockchain Olympiad (IBCOL) 2021, a three-day multidisciplinary design and building competition, will begin on October 8. 

For the first time, the virtual event will be held in Bangladesh. Previously, it was held in Hong Kong.

The Division of Information and Communication Technology and the Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) are hosting the IBCOL 2021, which will coincide with Bangladesh's golden anniversary of independence.

Zunaid Ahmed Palak, the State Minister for ICT, made the announcement at a press conference on Wednesday.

Palak added in his keynote address, "We have to use blockchain technology. We have a national blockchain strategy. Work is also underway on how we can take advantage of this. Blockchain can be one of the major sectors for investment."

He stated that the current major difficulty is information security, and that the government is striving to address this issue.

The event is organised internationally every year, according to the state minister, to keep up with the rapid development and dissemination of blockchain technology around the world.

There will be seminars on CBDC and Cryptocurrency, e-Governance, Identity and privacy and FinTech.

Team ‘Rompecadenas’ of the United International University (UIU) won the ‘Blockchain Olympiad Bangladesh 2021’ competition in the e-health category. They will represent Bangladesh in this event tomorrow.

Previously, two Bangladeshi teams which participated in the ‘International Blockchain Olympiad (IBCOL) 2020’ competition, won two out of six main awards.
