The Global Studies and Governance Programme of SLASS at the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has organised a day-long event to celebrate the United Nations Day.
To mark the day, through research-based panel discussions, 15 papers were presented under four different panels at the event held on IUB campus in the capital on Wednesday.
In the first panel, four papers were presented by renowned lawyer Barrister Amir-ul Islam, Prof. Sadeka Halim, Dean, Faculty of Social Science, Dhaka University, Mr. Nazbul H. Khan, Country Representative, Winrock International, Dhaka and Mr. Rakesh Katal, Chief of Party, Nobo Jatra, says a statement.
Mr. Adrian Pereira, Executive Director, North South Initiative, Malaysia spoke on ‘Building cross border solidarity for safe labour migration’ through video conference.
Five papers were presented during the second panel session under the topic ‘Climate change, Static Humans, Rising Costs’. The session was chaired by Dr. Imtiaz A. Hussain, Head, Global Studies and Governance Programme, IUB.
Papers were presented by Dr. Md. Sorowar Hosain, Head, Department of Environmental Management, IUB; Dr. Nadiruzzaman, Asst. Professor, Department of Environmental Management, IUB; Md. Shamshuddoha, Executive Director, Centre for Policy, Research and Development (CPRD); Ms. Nusrat Shabnam Khan, Department of Environmental Management, IUB and Rtn. Hasnain Sabih Nayak, Independent Consultant.
Another three papers were presented on the third panel by Dr. Lailufer Yasmin, Professor, International Relations, Dhaka University; Dr. Md. Abdul Awal Khan, Associate Professor, Department of Law, IUB; Ms. Nabila Tahsin Farah, Lecturer, Department of Law, IUB and Mr. Ziaur Rahman, Founder, Citizens Open Forum.
Mr. Abul Hasan Chowdhury, former state minister of foreign affairs; Prof. Afsan Chowdhury, Professor, Department of English and Humanities, BRAC University, Dr. RashedUz Zaman, Professor, International Relations, Dhaka University and Mosammat Shahanara Monica, Director, United Nations Wing, Ministry of Foreign Affairs were the speakers of the last panel under the topic ‘Globalisation at Bay?’. The session was chaired by Dr. Md. Aminul Karim, Dean, School of Business, IUB.
The day-long celebration followed by cultural programme and a very entertaining concert were attended by the students, members of the faculty and administration of the university along with distinguished guests.
