Five day Robotics Workshop Concludes at SUST

RoboSUST, the only research-based robotics club of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), has launched its month-long flagship event - 'The Mythical RoboSUST Month,' and completed its flagship 5-day workshop, 'Introduction to Robotics.' RoboSUST aspires to hone and nurture the youth of SUST utilizing this workshop

'The Mythical RoboSUST Month' event is the manifestation of their ideal to teach the youth of Bangladesh robotics education, make robotics skills accessible to underprivileged children of our country, and represent Bangladesh nationally and internationally on robotics platforms.

It aims to give first-year university students of SUST a grip on the importance of robotics; teach them the skills and determination required to utilise their talents in the field. The signature event is underway from September 12th till mid-October.

The 'Introduction to Robotics' workshop was its signature event that has now concluded. In mid-October, the new members of RoboSUST are going to put their skills to the test in the final event, an intra-university robotics contest.

The 5-day 'Introduction to Robotics' workshop aimed to teach about 80 robotics enthusiasts stemming from any department of the university the skills required to launch their final robotics project in the upcoming robotics contest, 'Auto Grand Prix,' and also to be able to prepare them to initiate any self-motivated robotics venture in the future.

The workshop had 3 sections - Introduction, Arduino, Hardware and Design, and Logic and Programming.

Each of the segments was undertaken by instructors who are RoboSUST alumni and industry experts. The instructors were Mehedi Hasan Rupok (Machine Learning Engineer, GigaTech Ltd.),  Md. Farhanul Islam, (Software Engineer, Reoon Technology), Md. Hasanuzzaman Chowdhury Joy (President, RoboSUST) and Mirza Nihal Baig (Research and Development Secretary, RoboSUST).

The 80 participants were divided into 16 teams, which were constantly mentored further by 10 executive members of RoboSUST who have extensive knowledge in the field of robotics and experience competing in nationwide robotics contests.

They aimed to provide the best quality experience possible for the newcomers, engage with their mentors to learn and grow continuously even after the workshop is completed and create a constantly growth-oriented, fun-loving environment that promotes curiosity.

"Introduction to Robotics workshop was a resounding success. We achieved our goals of having each team understand the core concepts necessary to produce their own robotics projects. I would sincerely like to thank the instructors, mentors, and participants for helping make this workshop the success that it is," said Sadia Nowrin Mithila Ahmed, General Secretary of RoboSUST.

Two teams led by RoboSUST executives have recently been selected for the national round of NASA Space Apps Challenge 2022 out of 150+ submissions nationwide: Team Envairo and Team Icarus. They have announced that Team Icarus has achieved the Champion position in the National Hackathon on October 2nd. Their team is now waiting for the International Judgment to take place.

"RoboSUST was the creator of our country's first humanoid robot, Ribo, followed by the humanoid robot Lee. Both of whom can speak clear Bengali. We already have bagged 65+ robotics contest title wins and counting! The ultimate goal of RoboSUST is to aspire to be a warm and welcoming place for people from every discipline - to pursue, hone and utilise their robotics dreams," added Sadia Nowrin Mithila Ahmed.

The RoboSUST team is happy to be able to welcome newcomers and future talents that will take Bangladesh to new heights of prosperity in the field of robotics.
