The fifth annual ‘GOBESHONA’ conference on climate change ended on Friday at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) in Bashundhara, Dhaka.
The prime emphasis of the four-day conference was on domestic capacity building to tackle the adverse impacts of climate change on Bangladesh.
The International Center for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) of the university organised the conference at its campus, says a press release.
Dr. Shamsul Alam, Senior Secretary and Member, General Economics Division, Ministry of Planning, attended the programme as Chief Guest.
Prof. M. Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB, chaired the closing ceremony, added the release.
Mr. Ban Ki-moon, who was the eighth Secretary General of the United Nations sent a video message to the closing session.
Dr. S.M. Munjurul Hannan Khan, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change; Dr. Saleemul Huq, Director, ICCCAD ; Dr. Atiq Rahman, Executive Director, Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS); Mr. Barnabs Dickson; and Runa Khan, Executive Director, Friendship spoke on the occasion.
26 sessions took place while at the conference while 69 research and 14 keynote papers and 4 videos were presented.
A large number of participants from home and abroad, faculties and senior officers of IUB, students and development activists from different national and international NGOs were present in the closing ceremony.
The 6th Annual GOBESHONA Conference will take place at IUB from January 8-11, 2020.
