With the theme “Higher Education for Inclusive Development”, the Dhaka University (DU) authorities will celebrate the 97th founding anniversary of the institution on July 1 in a befitting manner.
To celebrate the “Dhaka University Day”, the university authorities have chalked out various programmes.
DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzman in Dhaka on Friday declared the programme schedule at a press briefing held at Abdul Matin Virtual classroom on the campus.
DU Pro-VC Professor Dr Muhammad Samad and DU acting registrar Md Enamuzzaman were also present on the occasion.
National and university flags will be hoisted and students, teachers and university staff will bring out colourful processions. Important university structures will also be decorated.
A discussion will be held at TSC at 11:00 am with Vice-Chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman in the chair. Dr Kazi Khaliquzzaman Ahmed will present the keynote paper on this year’s theme, “Higher Education for Inclusive Development”.
The celebration will include an exhibition of rare manuscripts at DU central library, display of arts and crafts and a drawing competition at Faculty of Fine Art, a debate competition, a friendly football match at university physical centre, and cultural programmes, said a BSS report.
Prof Akhtaruzzaman invited all the alumni to join the celebration to make the observance a success.
DU has played a vital role in the country’s history. Its students and teachers have sacrificed their lives in the 1952 language movement, 1969 mass upsurge and during the 1971 Liberation War and anti-autocracy movement in 1990.
The national flag was first hoisted at Battola on the university campus on March 2, 1971.
