Dhaka University (DU) and AFC Agro Biotech Ltd have agreed to jointly work for the innovation of various vaccines, including the development and production of the Covid-19 vaccine (DUBD-vac).
In this regard, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Centre for Advanced Research in Sciences (CARS) of DU and AFC Agro Biotech at the DU vice-chancellor's lounge on Monday.
DU Treasurer Prof Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed and Executive Chairman of AFC Agro Biotech Maj Gen (Retired) Md Sarwar Hossain signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations in presence of DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman.
As per the agreement, both the institutions will jointly conduct advanced-level research on biological sciences including genetic engineering and biotechnology as well as producing various medicines.
DU VC Prof Akhtaruz-zaman thanked the AFC Agro Biotech authorities for signing the MoU.
The whole nation will be benefited from this inclusive research, he hoped.
JND biotech and Emergent biotech, two biotech companies in the US, will provide support and cooperation in this regard.
It may be mentioned that the two US-based companies are being run by former DU students who are currently living in the USA.
