Former Professor of Pali Department of Chittagong University Jyotish Barua passed away at his Betari Goli residence in Kotwali of Chittagong. He was 71.
Professor Barua died of old-age complications in the early hours of Saturday, family sources said.
He left behind his wife, a son and three daughters, a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death, reports BSS.
The professor joined the department in 1978 and retired in 2012, Founder Chairman of the Pali Department Professor Dr Dipankar Srijnan Barua said.
A mourning meeting was held at 10:00 am at Nandan Kanan Bouddha Bihar in Chittagong where a number of students, teachers and his relatives were present.
Barua will be cremated at his village Panchkhain in Raozan upazila of Chittagong, Dipankar added.
