The Bangladesh University of Professionals((BUP), a public university operated by the armed forces of Bangladesh, was ranked fifth among all the public universities per the UGC rating.
Talking to the FE, Air commodore Mamunur Rashid, chief of PRIP of the BUP, also said that the university is thriving to be an internationally reputed university.
We have already earned a good reputation in the country, he said, pointing out that within a short period of time, the institution has excelled as a seat of higher education.
Lt colonel Md Maksudul Alam, chairman of the Mass-communications and journalism, said 56 academic institutions are currently affiliated with the BUP.
Responding to a question, BUP officials said that the tuition fees of the BUP are slightly higher than some other public universities as those universities get more funds from the UGC.
But the BUP offers several scholarships for poor and meritorious students, so at the end of the day, students from poor families have the opportunity to get higher education from here, Mr Rashid added.
Responding to a question, he said access to the campus would be easier after completing a new complex of the BUP, as presently, one has to pass through the Mirpur Cantonment to enter the BUP campus.
Mr Rashid also mentioned that MoUs had been signed by the BUP with 4 international universities as part of its drive to enhance international ranking.
He also said that for the first time, foreign students would start studying in the BUP from the next academic year.
Narrating the history of the institution, the officials said
“In order to expand and integrate the existing educational and training institutes of the armed forces, they were needed to be brought under a single umbrella or authority. Thereby, the establishment of "Bangladesh University of Professionals," (BUP) took place in that process and came in to being as 31st public university of Bangladesh on 05 June 2008”.
“BUP is a unique public university run by the armed forces, upholding the motto "EXCELLENCE THROUGH KNOWLEDGE".
The youngest university is confident in furthering the knowledge in the field of national security, technology and modern science to achieve the desired human resources development of the country.
