Students’ council has been formed through direct election in 8,684 primary schools in all eight districts under Rajshahi division.
Abul Kalam Azad, Divisional Deputy Director of Department of Primary Education, said that a seven-member students’ council has been formed with at least two candidates from each class for one-year term on Wednesday last.
Students by themselves took part in all process of the election and casted their votes to elect the council members spontaneously.
He added that building democratic attitude and tolerance of others’ opinions among students and involving them in school development activities were the main objectives of the council.
The elected councils will meet once in a month and a general council will be held every six months with the presence of other students, reports BSS.
Talking to reporters on the issue Ayub Ali, headmaster of Ghoramara Government Primary School, said the council will monitor seven main tasks in terms of books and learning instruments, health, sports and culture, water resources, midday meals, greetings and entertainment.
The respective school headmaster will delegate the duties to the council.
