TRAFFIC jam is a major problem in our city life. With the construction of flyovers, sadly though, the problem of traffic congestion has further intensified. Moghbazar- Mouchak flyover is one glaring example of worsening traffic situation. It was planned that the project will be completed by 2014. But by now in 2017, only 70 per cent of its construction work has been completed.
People are now in miseries due to delayed construction of the flyover. Travelling through the roads which are connected with the flyover, i.e., Moghbazar, Mouchak, Malibagh, Shantinagar, Siddeshwari, Eskaton, Saatrasta and Rampura is an ordeal. The office-going people and students of different institutions are the worst sufferers. Many who have to negotiate this route every day have complained of slow pace of construction of the flyover. As a result the movement of vehicles on the way is interrupted unnecessarily.
In addition, there are mud, bricks, sands, pipes, and iron rods lying under the flyover that create obstruction for traffic movement leading to undesirable traffic congestion. People are robbed of valuable working hours. This is undesirable to say the least.
Besides, the contractors assigned with the job of building the flyover do not have proper safety arrangements as a result of which something fatal may occur at any time. Because of lax in safety arrangements already two workers died on April 4.
The problem has turned worse during monsoon. The Project Director said that the construction is now at its final stage and the flyover will be open for traffic within the next couple of months.
We appeal to the concerned authorities of the government to complete the project as soon as possible and also reconstruct the roads near the flyover for smooth traffic movement. The drainage system of the adjoining areas should also be repaired.
