Govt targets double-digit GDP growth in FY24

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday said her government has planned to take the country's GDP growth to 10 per cent in the 2023-'24 fiscal year.

The Prime Minister said this while briefing the media about the national budget unveiled on Thursday for the 2019-2020 fiscal year, reports UNB.

To achieve the double-digit GDP by FY2023-24, the GDP growth rate in the proposed budget has been projected to be 8.2 per cent for FY2019-20 as the GDP grew consistently at a very high rate over the last decade.

The Prime Minister is briefing the post-budget press conference at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Dhaka as Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal is sick. The briefing started at 3:00 pm.

Terming the national of 2019-20 the biggest-ever budget in Bangladesh's history, Sheikh Hasina said the target of the budget is to implement the election manifesto of her government.

She said the government also targets to create 30 million jobs in the country by 2030.

Laying emphasis on the education sector, Hasina said this sector will get the topmost priority in the next fiscal year.

The Prime Minister also said Bangladesh is on top in eliminating gender disparity in South Asian countries.
