Singapore's manufacturing output falls 1.4 pc last year

Singapore’s manufacturing output declined 1.4 per cent year on year in 2019, said the Economic Development Board on Friday.

Last December, the country's factory output declined 0.7 per cent year on year, said the board.

Excluding biomedical manufacturing, the output decreased 4.1 per cent year on year in 2019.

In December only, the manufacturing output excluding biomedical manufacturing decreased 3.2 per cent year on year, reports Xinhua.

On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, Singapore's manufacturing output increased 4.1 per cent in December 2019. Excluding biomedical manufacturing, the output rose 1.1 per cent.

As for the performance of different clusters, the electronics cluster's output decreased 7.4 per cent year on year in the whole year of 2019 but increased 0.2 percent last December.

Meanwhile, the biomedical manufacturing cluster's output rose 10.7 per cent year on year in the year and 10.3 per cent in the month, the precision engineering cluster's output fell 2.5 per cent in the year but grew seven percent in the month, the transport engineering cluster's output contracted 1.8 per cent in the year and 14.1 per cent in the month, the chemicals cluster's output fell two percent in the year and 5.2 per cent in the month, and the general manufacturing industries cluster's output increased 1.5 per cent in the year but declined ten percent in the month.
