Malaysia's producer price index falls 2.2 pc in July

Malaysia's producer price index (PPI) for local production dropped 2.2 per cent year-on-year in July as most sectors posted negative growths, official data showed Thursday.

Malaysian Statistics Department said in a statement that the mining index showed the highest decline at 9.9 per cent, followed by agriculture, forestry and fishing indices which decreased by 6.5 per cent.

Water supply and manufacturing indices fell 2.8 per cent and 0.9 per cent, respectively.

Meanwhile, the index of electricity and gas supply edged up by 1.5 per cent, reports Xinhua.

As compared to the previous month, the PPI for local production declined 0.1 per cent in July.

For the period of January to July, the PPI registered a decrease of 2.0 per cent as compared to the same period last year.
