The inflow of remittance grew by over 36 per cent to a record $24.78 billion in the just-concluded fiscal year (FY) despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, officials said.
The figure jumped from $18.20 billion in FY 2019-20, according to the central bank’s latest statistics, released on Monday.
The money sent home by Bangladeshis working abroad amounted to $1.94 billion in June 2021, down by $230.21 million from the previous month's level.
In May last, the remittances stood at $2.17 billion. It was $1.83 billion in June 2020.
The BB officials, however, expressed the hope that the upward trend of remittance would continue in the coming months as the government is providing a 2.0 per cent incentive for remittance receipts.
