Index of Real Effective Exchange Rate (REER) of Bangladeshi currency increased to 140.32 at the end of the past fiscal year (FY17) which was 138.33 at the end of FY16, the Bangladesh Bank data revealed.
Latest statistics of the central bank also showed that on quarterly basis, REER dropped to 140.32 at the end of fourth quarter of FY17 which was 148.04 at the end of third quarter, and 149.99 at the end of second quarter.
Nominal exchange rate of taka-dollar also depreciated by 2.73 per cent in the past fiscal year.
The nominal exchange rate was Tk 78.40 against US$1 at the end of June 2016 while it increased to TK 80.60 at the end of June 2017.
Central bank statistics also showed that on quarterly basis, Bangladeshi taka depreciated by 1.14 per cent at the end of June this year against the nominal exchange rate of Tk 79.68 at the end of March this year.
