Ratio of direct green finance declines

The ratio of direct green finance to total green finance by banks and financial institutions declined in the past year, according to latest central bank statistics.

It showed that the ratio of direct green finance stood at 7.78 per cent of the total green finance at the end of 2017, which was 8.49 per cent in 2016.

The latest quarterly review report of the green banking activities also showed that the value of direct green finance stood at Tk 13.52 billion at the end of 2017 while it was Tk 160.27 billion for total green finance.

Green finance means funding or financing the environmental friendly projects.

Direct green finance includes renewable energy, energy efficiency, liquid waste management, alternative energy, fire burnt brick, non-fire block brick, recycling and recyclable product, green industry, safety and security of factories etc.

The data also showed that the value of direct green finance was Tk 11.96 billion in 2016 while it was Tk 128.87 billion for the green finance in total.
