Number of tax payers hasn't increased: NBR chief

The number of tax payers has not increased though the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has increased in recent time.

National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiya made the remarks on Saturday at a  exchange meeting in Chattogram.

The leaders of Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCCI) and Chattogram Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce joined the meeting, reports UNB.

"If the tax rate is relaxed, the number of tax payers will not get down," the NBR chief said.

Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiya said that provision will be there in the next budget to encourage private sector investment as it pushes country's employment up.

Quoting the finance minister's interest in reducing bank's interest rate, Mosharraf Hossain said some banks have already started reducing the interest rate in a bid to help private sector's investment to grow up faster.

REHAB President Qayyum Chowdhury, BGMEA first vice-chairman Mainuddin Ahmed Mintu, BAFA Dirctor Anjan Shekhor Das, among others, were present.
