The National Board of Revenue (NBR) will observe revenue Halkhata on April 15 next, on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh, in a bid to encourage taxpayers clear their long-pending dues on that day.
Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, chairman of the NBR, said that Income tax and Value Added Tax (VAT) offices across the country will organise the programme in their respective premises to meet the taxpayers.
“The NBR has some Tk 500 billion arrears amount of revenue laying with the court cases,” he said on Tuesday.
The board will give a token gift to the taxpayers on that day and will try to incentivise them later for paying the outstanding taxes on Halkhata festival, he added.
The NBR chief said the revenue board is also communicating with other government ministries to offer the tax card holders some facilities as enjoyed by the Commercially Important Person (CIP).
