Submission of income tax returns in the tax-fair across the country grew by 87 per cent on Thursday, the third day of the event, compared to that of the corresponding day last year.
National Board of Revenue (NBR) received Tk 2.44 billion income tax from the fair on the third day, said a statement of NBR.
The tax-fair kicked off on Tuesday in eight divisional headquarters, and will continue until November 19.
On Thursday, tax-fair took place in eight divisional headquarters, 51 districts and 18 upazilas.
A large number of young taxpayers, senior citizens and women submitted their income tax returns in the tax-fair amid enthusiasm and in a festive mood.
A total of 1,85,498 taxpayers submitted their income tax returns in the tax-fair from Tuesday to Thursday. NBR received a total of Tk 10.14 billion tax against those returns.
Some 36 students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) attended a tax education forum and a quiz competition, held on the sidelines of the tax-fair on Officers' Club premises in the city's Bailey Road area.
NBR Chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan handed over certificates and books to 10 winners of the quiz competition.
Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Muslim Chowdhury attended the tax education forum as the chief guest.
